About Doctor

Dr. Deepak Govil is a distinguished surgeon who specializes in gastrointestinal, general, and advanced laparoscopic procedures. He has been in active surgical practice for over 29 years.

He is an expert in performing surgery for Portal Hypertension, Splenectomy, Lieno-renal shunts, Ilio-anal Anastomosis with a pouch for Ulcerative colitis, Esophageal resection with Gastric pull-up, Whipple's Pancreato-Duodenectomy, and Hepaticojejunostomy for Biliary strictures and benign and malignant obstructive jaundice, etc., among other procedures

In addition, he does surgery for surgical obstructive jaundice, pancreatic illnesses such as acute and chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic tumors, upper and lower gastrointestinal hemorrhage, and gastrointestinal cancers such as esophageal, gastric, colonic, and rectal cancers.

He has done one thousand surgeries that are associated with liver and gastrointestinal surgery, including laparoscopic surgery, during the course of his career which has spanned more than three decades.

He served as the leader of the group that was entrusted with the responsibility of establishing the Department of GI Surgery at PSRI in New Delhi.

Teaching is something he enjoys doing, and he has held the position of Professor of Surgery at GTB Hospital in New Delhi.

He had liver transplantation surgery at Apollo Hospital on September 15th, 2006, as part of his participation in the procedure.

At the IMA South Delhi Annual Convention that took place in January 2009, he was honored with the President's appreciation award.

He is a member of a number of prestigious associations, some of which are the Association of Surgeons of India, the Delhi chapter of the Association of Surgeons of India, the Indian Society of Gastroenterology, the Indian Association of Surgical Gastroenterology, the Indian Association of Endoscopic Gastro surgeons of India, and the South Delhi branch of the Indian Medical Association.

In addition, he is a member of the Indian Association of Endoscopic Gastro Surgeons of India.

Until March 2009, he served as the Secretary of the Consultant forum at Apollo Hospital, where he was responsible for organizing various forum events.

Between the years 1999 and 2008, he served as the Convenor of the "Delhi GI Surgeons Club," which was responsible for organizing clinical meetings in several departments of surgical gastroenterology in Delhi.

He has an interest in research and has written articles that have been published in reputable publications. In addition to that, he has contributed chapters to many works.

Career Highlights

  • After completing his postgraduate studies in a facility that focused mostly on gastro-surgical procedures, he started working as a Surgical Specialist at the Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
  • Then, between the years 1992 and 1995, he went back to AIIMS to complete his Post Doctoral Course (Ph.D.) in GI Surgery.
  • After that, in 1996, he began working as an assistant professor at the University College of Medical Sciences in Shahdara, which is located in New Delhi.
  • The next year, 1997, he began his employment at the Pushpawati Singhania Research Institute for Liver, Renal, and Digestive Disorders in the capacity of Senior Consultant for GI Surgery.
  • He was the one who started this institution's Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery, and for the following seven years, he practiced all manner of major gastrosurgical treatments.
  • He has been responsible for carrying out all of the main gastro-surgical operations here.
